What this weight converter does
Type a value, choose the unit you have and the unit you want, and the converted weight appears instantly. It supports milligrams, grams, kilograms, tonnes, ounces, pounds and stones. It is useful for cooking and baking, shopping from abroad, postage and luggage limits, gym weights, body weight and school science.
How to use it
- Enter the value to convert.
- Choose the From unit.
- Choose the To unit.
- Read the result, which updates as you type.
How the conversion works
Each unit is defined by its exact size in kilograms. The tool converts your value to kilograms and then to the unit you chose:
result = value × (kilograms in the From unit) ÷ (kilograms in the To unit)
The exact sizes used are: 1 pound = 0.45359237 kg, 1 ounce = 0.028349523125 kg, 1 stone = 6.35029318 kg and 1 tonne = 1,000 kg.
Example: 70 kilograms = 70 ÷ 0.45359237 = 154.32 pounds. And 16 ounces = 1 pound = 0.4536 kilograms.
Tips
For luggage, airlines often allow 23 kg, which is about 50.7 pounds. For recipes, remember that fluid ounces measure volume, not weight, so they are a different unit. You can type digits in Arabic-Indic form or use a decimal comma. Very large or very small answers appear in scientific notation. Your numbers stay in your browser.
