What this temperature converter does

Enter a temperature, choose the scale you have and the scale you want, and the converted value appears immediately. It converts between Celsius (°C), Fahrenheit (°F) and Kelvin (K). It is useful for weather forecasts when travelling, oven temperatures in recipes, body temperature, science homework and engineering.

How to use it

  1. Type the temperature. The box starts at 25.
  2. Choose the scale in the From list.
  3. Choose the scale in the To list.
  4. Read the result.

Formulas

To go between Fahrenheit and Kelvin, the tool converts through Celsius.

Example: 100°C = 100 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 212°F, the boiling point of water at sea level, and 373.15 K. Freezing water, 0°C, is 32°F and 273.15 K.

Handy reference points

Normal body temperature is about 37°C or 98.6°F. A comfortable room is around 20 to 22°C, which is 68 to 72°F. Many ovens run at 180°C, which is 356°F. You can type numbers in Arabic-Indic digits or with a decimal comma, and negative temperatures work too. Your numbers stay in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?

Multiply the Celsius value by 9, divide by 5 and add 32. For example, 25°C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 77°F.

How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?

Subtract 32, multiply by 5 and divide by 9. For example, (98.6°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 = 37°C, which is normal body temperature.

At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

At −40 degrees. Minus 40°C and minus 40°F are the same temperature.

Why can't I enter a temperature below absolute zero?

Absolute zero (0 K, −273.15°C or −459.67°F) is the lowest possible temperature, so lower values are impossible and the converter rejects them.
