What this tip calculator does

Type the bill and the tip percentage and the calculator shows the tip and the total to pay. If several people share the bill, enter how many and it also shows the tip and the total for each person. It is handy for restaurants, cafés, taxis, hotels, delivery and any service where you want to work out a fair tip quickly.

How to use it

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Enter the tip percentage. It starts at 15%, and you can change it.
  3. Enter the number of people if you are splitting the bill. Leave 1 if not.
  4. Read the tip, the total, and the amount per person.

Formula

Tip = bill × tip percentage ÷ 100. Total = bill + tip. Amount per person = total ÷ number of people.

Example: a bill of 120 with a 10% tip split between 4 people gives a tip of 12, a total of 132, a tip of 3 each and 33 each in total.

Tips about tipping

Tipping customs differ widely. In some countries tips are expected, in others a service charge is added automatically, and in some places tipping is unusual. Look at your receipt before you add anything. The calculator uses plain numbers with two decimals, so it works with any currency, and it does not round to a coin size. Your numbers stay in your browser and are never uploaded.
