Slug Generator
Everything runs in your browser. Your data never leaves your device.
What this tool does
This slug generator turns any title or phrase into a clean, URL-friendly slug. It lowercases the text, removes accents and Arabic diacritics, replaces spaces and symbols with a separator and trims the ends. Paste several titles, one per line, to create many slugs at once.
How to use it
- Type or paste your title, or a list with one title per line.
- Choose a separator: hyphen or underscore.
- Choose what to do with Arabic letters: keep them, or transliterate to Latin letters.
- Copy your slugs.
What happens to your text
The tool normalises the text, strips accents (é becomes e) and Arabic marks such as tashkeel and tatweel, converts Arabic-Indic digits to 0–9 and lowercases English letters. Any run of other characters becomes a single separator, and separators at the start or end are removed.
Example: “Crème Brûlée: Best Recipe!” becomes creme-brulee-best-recipe. The Arabic title “مَرْحَبًا بالعالم ٢٠٢٤” becomes مرحبا-بالعالم-2024 when Arabic letters are kept.
About transliteration
The Latin option uses a simple letter-by-letter table (for example م to m and ش to sh) and does not add vowels, so محمد becomes mhmd. It is approximate and meant for neat, readable links, not for official spellings. If you need an exact name format, write the slug by hand. Your text is processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
What is a URL slug?
A slug is the readable last part of a web address that describes the page, such as best-hotels-in-cairo. Clean slugs are easier to read, share and remember, and they help search engines understand the page topic.
What makes a good slug?
Short, lowercase, made of words separated by hyphens, with no accents, spaces or symbols. Include the main keyword and leave out filler words when you can.
Hyphens or underscores?
Hyphens are the usual choice for web pages, and search engines treat them as word separators. Underscores suit file names and code identifiers.
Should I keep Arabic letters in a slug?
Modern browsers display Arabic URLs well and they can help local search. Latin slugs are shorter to copy and look cleaner when links are pasted into some apps. This tool lets you choose.
