About this 2048 game
2048 is a sliding number puzzle. You start with a 4 by 4 board and two small tiles. Each move slides every tile as far as it can go. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile with double the value. After every move a new 2 or 4 appears. Your goal is to build a 2048 tile before the board fills up.
How to play
- Press an arrow key or W, A, S, D, swipe the board, or tap the arrow buttons to slide all the tiles in that direction.
- Merge equal tiles to make bigger ones: 2 and 2 become 4, 4 and 4 become 8, and so on.
- Keep going until you reach 2048, or until no moves are left.
- Press New game at any time to start again.
Tips for a higher score
- Keep your biggest tile in one corner and do not move it out.
- Build a descending chain along one edge, so each tile sits next to one that can merge with it.
- Use mostly two or three directions, for example left, down and right, and use the fourth only when you must.
- Do not chase quick merges in the middle of the board, because they scatter your tiles and block your chain.
Good to know
Each new tile is a 2 about nine times out of ten and a 4 otherwise. A game ends when the board is full and no two neighbouring tiles match. The game runs entirely in your browser, with no sign-up and no ads in the way of the board.

How do you win 2048?
You win by creating a tile with the number 2048 by merging equal tiles. After that you can keep playing to reach an even higher score and bigger tiles.
How is the score calculated?
Every time two tiles merge, the value of the new tile is added to your score. Merging two 8s gives a 16 and adds 16 points.
Is my best score saved?
Yes, in your own browser, so it is still there next time on the same device. Nothing is sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Can I play 2048 on my phone?
